The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Kaduna State Chapter, unequivocally condemns the recent spate of brutal attacks in Plateau State, which have left over 20 civilians dead in communities across Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) within a single week.
The latest assault on April 2, 2025, targeted Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai communities, claiming at least 10 lives and displacing hundreds.
This follows a similar attack on mourners in Ruwi community on March 28, 2025, where 12 people were killed.
The CNPP Kaduna Chapter notes with grave concern that Plateau State has become a recurring killing field, with over 300 lives lost in 2023 alone due to monthly attacks.
Despite the federal government’s deployment of military operations like Operation Hakorin Damisa IV and state level initiatives such as Operation Rainbow, security forces have consistently failed to protect vulnerable communities.
Survivors report that attackers, often identified as armed herders, operate with impunity, issuing advance warnings such as the December 29, 2023, letter threatening Pushit community yet facing no interception.
The CNPP echoes the concerns of Amnesty International and the United Nations, which have repeatedly criticized Nigerian authorities for allowing impunity and neglecting victims. For instance, during the December 24, 2023, Christmas Eve massacre, security forces took over 12 hours to respond to distress calls, enabling the slaughter of 195 individuals. The Bokkos Cultural Development Council has rightly called for communities to arm themselves in self-defense, a desperate measure highlighting the government’s abdication of its constitutional duty to protect citizens.
The CNPP Kaduna Chapter demands urgent action from federal and state authorities:
A transparent, independent probe into the April 2025 attacks and all unresolved Plateau massacres, with perpetrators brought to justice.
Redeployment of ineffective security personnel and adoption of community-led intelligence networks to preempt attacks.
Swift mobilization of relief materials for displaced persons, including medical care and psychosocial support.
Concrete steps to address root causes of conflict, including land disputes and ethno-religious tensions, rather than empty condemnations.
The CNPP reiterates that leadership is defined by competence, not age or academic credentials.
We urge lawmakers to abandon divisive legislation, such as the proposed age limit bill, and instead prioritize governance reforms that restore public trust.
Nigerians deserve leaders who value lives over political theatrics.
The bloodshed in Plateau must end now
