The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Kaduna State Chapter, received with profound shock and deep sorrow the heartbreaking news of the brutal killing of twelve (12) Kaduna State citizens in the troubled Mangun District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. We are equally dismayed by reports that eleven (11) others sustained varying degrees of injuries. These innocent travellers were reportedly on their way to Quan Pan Local Government for a wedding ceremony when they were heinously attacked and murdered.
This is contained in a press release signed by the state Chairman of the group, Malam Mika'ilu Abubakar on Sunday.
'We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, this senseless and barbaric act. Such cold-blooded savagery has no place in any civilised society.
"The perpetrators must be identified, apprehended, and brought to justice without delay. We call on all relevant security agencies to leave no stone unturned in their search for those responsible. Nigeria cannot continue to accommodate the nefarious activities of non-state actors with impunity. No citizen, irrespective of tribe, religion, or location, should be made to live in fear or fall victim to mindless violence. This madness must stop enough is enough."
The CNPP Kaduna State Chapter further calls on the Plateau State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, to use this tragic incident as an opportunity to make a decisive and unambiguous statement against lawlessness.
The statement further said, "The Governor must take full charge of the situation and ensure that security operations are intensified until justice is served. Anything short of that would amount to a betrayal of public trust.
"The CNPP will personally monitor developments as they unfold. We are committed to following up on the progress of investigations and field operations to ensure that this case does not go cold.
"The time has come for a clear national message to be sent that impunity and violence will no longer be tolerated in our country.
"We urge the good people of Kaduna State to remain calm and law-abiding in the face of this painful tragedy.
"Be assured that all hands are on deck to seek justice for our slain compatriots. Kaduna State has made remarkable progress in peace-building and conflict resolution through what is now referred to as the Kaduna Peace Model.
"This demonstrates that with the right political will and sincerity of purpose, even the most troubled areas can be transformed into havens of peace. We believe the same can be achieved in Plateau State.
"Our deepest condolences go to the families of our fellow citizens who lost their lives in this gruesome incident. We are already in contact with some of the affected families and will continue to provide support in every way possible.
"We also assure the injured victims that they will receive proper and timely medical care.
"May the souls of our dearly departed rest in perfect peace."
